Scope of Work:

AES provided full AC and DC electrical engineering design services to include PV layout, behind-the-meter interconnection, AC distribution, monitoring and controls for the rooftop PV systems on 10 largescale malls throughout the U.S., totaling approximately 6.6 MW of solar energy. These projects spanned eight states and eight utility and city/township requirements. Moreover, AES delivered a consistent team, sound project management and constant communication with all stakeholders.

Challenges

Per code, rooftop PV design demands special setback requirements to avoid obstructions and ensure walking paths for general building maintenance. Each project was related to those codes and had multiple behind-the-meter interconnects within existing customer-owned switchgear, which also provided unique problems. Finally, multiple deadlines in multiple jurisdictions was proving difficult for the developer to manage.
